Abstract
Objectives: We observe total scores and subscores on the consumption, dependence, and alcohol-related problem subscales of the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test-Korean version (AUDIT-K) in the general Korean male population.

Methods: We recruited subjects among the male population and excluded those with alcohol use disorders. Among them, 130 subjects completed the AUDIT-K and questionnaires about their alcohol consumption. Subjects were divided into two groups-low-risk drinkers and atrisk drinkers-based on the criteria recommended by the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA).

Results: Mean scores on the consumption, dependence, and alcohol-related problem subscales differed significantly among four groups according to a cut-off score of 10 on the AUDIT-K total score and the NIAAA criteria. A consumption score of £¼4 was observed in subjects with low-risk drink ing and an AUDIT-K score £¼10, a dependence score of ¡Ã4 was seen in those with at-risk drinking and an AUDIT-K score ¡Ã10, and alcohol-related problem scores of ¡Ã4 were observed in those with AUDIT-K scores ¡Ã10.

Conclusion: Our findings suggest that total scores and subscales scores, such as consumption, dependence, and alcohol-related problem, of the AUDIT-K provide additional information about alcohol drinking.
